Boston Spot Battle 2009

October 15th, 2009 Comments Off

bsb-09-2revision3

The Boston Street Battle this year is on November 14th. As a cold street contest this event marks the end of 2009 and comfortable street skating weather and the Beginning of indoor winter skatepark sessions in New England.

This year it’s less of a marathon style contest and more of a spot battle, this way if you don’t like a certain spot then you don’t have to skate it. Who ever destroys a spot the most will win stuff at that spot. You can win as many spots as you like and whoever wins the most spots is the champion. Prizes for the top 3 at each spot as well as best trick(s) a “grom” 17 and under award a old man 30+ award and other give a-ways where deserved.

The meeting spot and warm up session is 10:00AM at:
Hyde Park Skate Park.
1 Reservation Road
Hyde Park, Massachusetts 02136

we need to start earlier this year cause it gets dark early in the fall.
$13 if you pre-register online before November 6th. $20 if you register the day of.
Visit www.myspace.com/bostonstreetbattle for more info and online registration.

Announcement:

The meeting spot has changed to the “Blue Ledges”. The address to the school is 50 Whitman St. Pawtucket, RI 02860. Google or mapquest the address for directions. As for other spots, these are the Directions from spot one to spot two. Don’t worry Rhode Island isn’t very big so this spot isn’t too far away from the original, maybe 15 minutes. The third spot however is right next to spot two and we’ll also be handing directions the day of the comp. We encourage people from all over to attend this event. Check out the edit below of last year’s comp.

Taylor Greene took the win by killing every spot and lacing numerous tricks on the drop rail including a 270 b/s torque and backslide to alley-opp top acid.

For the best gaps at Madison Park High School we had a 3-way tie between:
Kyle Couture – fakie 720 over the stair set
Jimmy Gill – med spin 540 over the four block
Yohan Torres – misty flip over the four block

judges-bsb

A great deal of incredible skating happened however there were several casualties throughout the day: Sean Money dislocated locatedhis shoulder at the first spot, which was pretty scary to see. Matt Heller did a huge straight air gap over the blue rails and slid on his face (He probably got a concussion but stuck around for the rest of comp). Brandon Cummings tried full cab alley-oop top soul resulting in a dislocated finger (he popped it back into place after a few attempts and kept skating his heat), and Benny Stout fell back hitting his head on the sidewalk really hard however got back up for more. You guys are entirely way too gangsta. It was definitely a battle between the best skaters in New England.
Thanks to everyone who came out – shred till your dead -gh
